CARDET was invited to present at a school staff meeting of the 26th Elementary School-Tricherousa in Limassol on October 30th 2017. School staff included 26 members (principal and teachers). The purpose of the presentation was to give an overview of the School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) framework and describe the process for implementing Tier 1. Particularly, the presentation focused on helping staff to understand how to build the Tier 1 approach, in which emphasis is placed on developing a common language for defining schoolwide expectations, teaching and reinforcing social behaviors as well as correcting social errors.

To begin with, teachers had the opportunity to review some previous SWPBS applications and examine the material produced for this purpose. In addition, the school staff reviewed the 8 implementation steps for Tier 1: (1) establishing a clear school vision and mission, (2) forming a leadership team, (3) defining schoolwide expectations and routines, (4) teaching expected social behaviours, (5) setting up a schoolwide reinforcement system, (6) developing a hierarchy of consequences, (7) collecting student and implementation fidelity data, and (8) providing teacher supports. The CARDET team presented some indicative lesson plans and reflected on the different methods of providing positive specific feedback to students. The school staff expressed interest in collaborating with the CARDET team to implement Tier 1 elements.
